What is that online discussion group where Durga Bor expressed herself?

My comments:

Re: "Why are certain "city girls" so famous when their sisters in smaller towns who are far superiour as dancers go unnoticed?"

Tell me the names and the contact information of these dancers in smaller towns, and if they are REALLY so talented, I will make sure they become famous and get financial support.
/ Applies only for Bharatanatyam and Odissi dancers in Tamil Nadu and Orissa. Age: 12-35/

I can arrange 30,000Rs for a Margam. No problem.

Re:"This comes but naturally to a considerably smaller percentage of the audience. "

The dancers do not understand that there are 10 million of people in the USA alone who could be interested in solo compositions IF the dancers presented these solo's in a digestible format suitable for westerners.

Re: "Group dances give these dancers a chance to display their talents. In the course of time,
they can emerge as soloists."

I noticed that group dances externalize their consciousness and degrade the dancers' skills required for a solo.

Re: "dilute them in any aspect to reach a wider audience"

Most dancers are stupid: instead of diluting, they could ADAPT the compositions and present them in a suitable formats for the spectators who may not be familiar with the technical elements, the symbolism of the lyrics, and the Indian culture at all.

Look at what Alarmel Valli tries to do. This is why she is successful.

Re:"Is it because dance gets less patronage?"

Dancers should stop looking for the support from a few rich individuals or the corrupt govt.: they can get the support from the middle class as well.
-----------------------------------

Re:"The question then would be, should you "dilute" the traditional classical forms to reach the masses? Can you get more people watching and interested if you simplify ?"

The solo requires watching it from a CLOSE distance so that you can see the facial expressions. The solo is not for big halls, only for small ones. This is why TV production is the best medium.

Re: "The future of Odissi music. Is it O.K. to electronify it?"

When did you last hear LIVE music? The "live" music that the audience hear comes through 1) bad mikes, 2) distorting amplifiers and 3) horrible loudspeakers. With the advent of these, the musicians forgot how to play, and the singers no longer have strong voices. Complete degradation in Kali Yuga.

Thus, the recorded music can be superior to the "live" music.

Re: "The viability of certain forms is more in certain areas. "

The goddesses who are in charge of specific forms are limited in their geographical reach, but have been gradually extending it over the last 50 years.

If you do yoga seriously, you can get some powers, and then help the goddesses extend their reach.
