Who is the *BEST" of all dancers?!

 Hello all dancers and dance rasikas!

Here is a question for you to ponder about and share your valuable thoughts with all of us out here at Narthaki's discussion board.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every dancer possesses an innate unique style of communicating the art that sets her or him apart from the rest.
Who do you think is/was the *best* dancer? Why???
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*BEST*: can have many meanings! You decide.

A few of the qualities in a *best* dancer could be:

An "ENTERTAINING" dancer who keeps us put on our seats and thoroughly glued to the performance ....

A "RHYTHMIC" dancer who is the Master of Tala/Nritta...

An "EXPRESSIVE" dancer who flows with emotions and moves you to a smile/laugh/cry (in joy, ofcourse).....

An "ELEVATING" dancer who leaves a deep impression that carries you to a higher medium and helps you see answers to your own blurry mystical questions about life....

A "SATISFYING" dancer who treats you to a completely satisfying recital (I guess, a more precise word in Tamil would be "Sowkhyamana" dancer!)There just can't be anything more you can ask for in the recital ...

A "PERFECT" dancer with a neat stage presence and impeccably chiseled movements (Nritta & Abhinaya) ....

An "AWE-INISPIRING" dancer who leaves the audience spellbound and absolutely inspired ....

A "SUBTLE" dancer who impresses with her calm presence and controlled execution of movements along with gentle and restrained Abhinaya ....

A "SCULPTURESQUE" dancer who looks like a sculputure from Khajuraho that has sprung to life and with face and figure of such ancient beauty that she appears like a woman who has just walked out of a Ravi Varma painting .....

An "APSARAish" dancer whose mere presence transports you to a blissful IndraLoka, who conquers your heart with her heavenly laasya and tandava, and whose slightest walk or glance is carved to bring out maximum beauty and grace....

The list can go on quite endlessly, as you can see...!

The above were just some adjectives that I could think of. Please feel free to create your own meaning of who a *best* dancer rightfully is. (Perhaps a mix of all the above...?)

As a dancer myself, I thought I'd like to hear a little from dance rasikas like yourselves, about what element(s) in a dancer generally moves your heart in a performance. Thanks for sharing your views. I'm sure that a lot of us will benefit from this discussion as well, in at least a way or two.

Sincerely,
Shruti Jayaraman

PS - Anita madam, hope you can take a few minutes off and share your ideas as well. I'm sure many dancers like myself will like to get some insight from you.
