If you get an orchestra from India, you'll most likely pay one fee for the entire orchestra (and the person or organization sponsoring the orchestra would decide how to divide your payment among the artists... and take a portion for themselves). That being said, for my arangetram, we paid $3,000 for a vocalist/nattuvannar, mridangist, and flautist. We also hired a local veena artist but I am unsure how much her fee was (around $200-$300?).

And note that since dance musicians usually come to the states as part of an already set orchestra, you can't really choose one or two of them and get local musicians for the rest. You can always add to them, though, like our veena player.
