You know, you cannot blame a whole community for an accident of history. Yes, caste system is an evil but the caste system is not practiced by Brahmins alone. In fact, my maid, when I was growing up in India, was more conscious of caste than we (my family) were. She would not talk to the person who cleaned the toilet even though we would and we were the "brahmins" you seem to be bad mouthing here.
No art or craft is a birth right. That kind of thinking is arrogant and disrespectful to Lord Shiva himself. Only people who are interested and have talent should learn it irrespective of caste. It is unfortunate that you have so much venom against the Brahmins. If it were not for the Brahmins of yesteryears, the art would have been dead by now. Do not forget that it is the Isai Vellalars themselves who decided to quit and go to other professions instead of standing up for themselves and fighting discrimination. In the US, the African-American community fought similar discrimination without running away from their problems. I think we Indians have to learn from that example instead of blaming everyone else for our shortcomings.
Also, not all Brahmins were dancing on stage. I was one of those Brahmins who was not allowed to take up the art form during my youth. I took up the art form after marriage and kids.
