I have tried long and hard to try and find a good teacher for my daughter.I'm putting in all these efforts for the simple reason that my daughter dances is passionate about the art .In US , in our area we have three teachers in all.None of them in my mind are good enough.Regarding the issue of money ,all of them are in it for money and there is no compromise on that front.
One of my friends told that a child can get only as good as the Guru and I should start looking for a good teacher. Then I started the quest to look for a teacher in India.Being from US we have no idea who are the good teachers who also will not cheat you once they know you are from US.I tried sending a mail to Few of the famous dancers requesting them to teach or atleast suggest a good teacher .None of them replied so far. Most of the Good dancers don't teach themselves .Only their students teach. And the fees is not discussed before we can start the class.I talked to a few teachers who will not even patiently answer your questions.Yes, our time was limited but my daughetr went to dance class every day for 45 days. She was willing to dance twice a day but the teacher was unwilling to accommodate her.We were paying an amount as fees and not per class which made it easier for the teacher to quote all kinds of reasons for not being able to give classes.(She just doesn't have enough time). So as Anamika suggests they don't drop everything for a foreign student . One more problem is that children can not perform solo until they are 13.So she can't perform anything she has learnt from India unless she also is learning from one of the local teachers. The dance teachers are available on most entertaintment committees and this policy is just to make sure children can't bypass their teachers.
I don't deny there must be good teachers but I want to know how to find them. That's the bottomline. Can anybody help.
Thank you
