Dear Narthaki reader:
I am sorry that you felt it was wrong for Sonal Mansingh to perform. I was in Pittsburgh on September 11, 2001 and the premiere of my new collaboration "DUST" was scheduled on that day. We began with a HOUSE FULL AUDITORIUM and i spoke the words of Rabindranath Tagore "Where the mind is without fear.." "DUST" went on as scheduled and there was not a dry eye in the entire auditorium. Art heals in times of confusion.Artists are NOT ENTERTAINERS and what Sonal Mansingh was offering in those confused times was a path to healing. As the twin towers were reduced to dust and ashes, artists around the world echoed that moment in their art. Some were public and others private. Sitting at home and mourning is one way. Communing with sensitive artistes during times of deep pain is embracing and protective.
