Summer Camp for young people

Attakkalari announces the much awaited Summer Camp for this year with added attractions - Contemporary Dance, Kalaripayattu (martial art) and Creative Movement Arts sessions weaved together with elements of Theatre for young people from the age of 5 to 18 years. The dates for the summer camp are Saturday, 9th April 2016 to Friday 22nd April, 2016 culminating with a public presentation on Saturday 23rd April 2016.
The classes will be held separately for different age groups but the presentation / showcase at the end will be stitched into a single piece with all the individual choreographies. This year, due to increased demand, there will be an additional second edition of the Summer Camp from Saturday, 30th April to Friday, 13th May, 2016 for those who could not attend the first batch. This edition will also have a batch for young adults (18 to 25 years).
Juniors (Ages 5 – 8): Fees: Rs.3000. The fun-filled classes run from 10 am to 1 pm. Through playful and creative sessions, participants will learn basic movement techniques and sequences, develop their own vocabulary in a playful atmosphere which are then put together in a choreography set to music and aided by costumes and props – all woven together with a thematic narrative.
Seniors (Ages 9 to 12): Fees: Rs.3500. The classes will be held from10 am to 1 pm. Participants will learn movement techniques from Contemporary Dance, Kalaripayattu and Physical Theatre. They will work individually and in groups to create movement ideas based on chosen themes and concepts which then will be woven together in a choreography set to music. There will be a public presentation on stage with costumes, light and sound set up.
Teens (Ages 13 to 18): Fees: Rs.4000. In the carefully crafted sessions held from 2 pm to 5 pm every day, the teens will be encouraged to find original movement ideas and develop their own personal expressions empowering them and enhancing their confidence and self-esteem. They will learn fundamental skills of spatial awareness, body alignment, posture, different movement techniques, partnering works and will have opportunities to explore individual ideas and participate in creative team work.
All sessions are held in fully equipped studios of Attakkalari, led by experts and carefully designed to meet healthier and safer practices involving warm up and cool down to avoid injuries. Limited seats only.
