Attakkalari’s flagship program, the two-year Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media is inviting applications for the upcoming batch beginning in September 2017. If you want to make a career in dance, secure your admission now for this one-of-a-kind professional training program in India.

The Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media is the most comprehensive course in India and is currently in its 11th year. Students will engage with fresh and cutting edge contemporary movement language as well as the somatic wisdom from Indian physical and performance traditions in this unique 2-year Diploma course. Students will also have the option of doing it as a one-year certificate course if preferred. It is a full-time program from 8 am to 5.30 pm - Monday through Friday. The Academic year is from September to August, which will culminate in a grand public graduation performance every August.

Focusing on embodiment, the students are trained in Contemporary Dance, Classical Ballet, Bharatanatyam (Indian Classical dance) and Kalaripayattu (Indian martial art form) along with shorter modules of other movement art forms from the country, in the first year. They have brief modules in Stage Technologies, Art History and Dance Humanities as well.

The second year will involve training in advanced techniques in the above listed forms along with modules in Dance Therapy, Dance Pedagogy, Arts Management, Dance Theory and Aesthetics. The students will also choose a major subject area – Performance, Pedagogy, Choreography or Interdisciplinary Studies - and their final project / thesis / presentation would be in this specialization. The students will also get on the job training in teaching / performing through Attakkalari's outreach programs.

Attakkalari’s audition process lays emphasis on assessing the participant’s physical awareness, overall coordination, strength, speed, flexibility, musicality and a sense of rhythm and space, comprehension, and most importantly, ability to imagine and be creative. Auditions are ongoing, and now nation-wide! Do not miss this opportunity. You can also do the auditions online by sending a short video of you performing (a solo) along with your CV to education@attakkalari.org
