V S Sharma: Happy 70th birthday!

scholar, speaker, writer and thinker Dr. V S Sharma turned 70 on March
8, 2007. Son of late P S Vasudeva Sharma, Haripad and Parvathy Antharjanam,
Suchindram, Dr. Sharma has published over 100 research papers and 65 books
on literature, archaeology, Fine Arts, spirituality and culture.
For a student of dance, his books on the Rasa theory, Kunchan Nampyar's Thullal, Natyasastra, Hastalakshanadeepika, Balaramabharatam, Dasarupa and the Life and Works of Maharaja Swati Tirunal are of interesting read. His mentors were eminent personalities like P Sheshadri Iyer, K P Narayana Pisharody and Dr. P K Narayana Pillai from whom he took his M.Litt, PhD and D.Litt.
He served as Dean – M G University and Kerala University, Chairman - Kerala Kalamandalam (1993-96), President - Margi Trivandrum and has produced several PhD holders under his guidance. A recipient of the Senior Fellowship from the Govt. of India, he has received several accolades, the most recent being Sahitya Kalanidhi title from Kerala Hindi Prachara Sabha (2007). His workshops on Natyasastra and Mohiniyattom and papers on the contribution of the Travancore Royal Family to Art and Literature are noteworthy.
