Sapphire Creations India Tour 2008 March 12 - May 27, 2008 February 29, 2008 Sapphire
Creations Dance Workshop maintains top of the mind recall when it comes
to a radical, contemporary idiom in modern experimental dance with an edge.
Initiating a revolution in the manner dance has been perceived by the new
generation, Sapphire constantly reaches out across age, territory and cultures
to create artistic bonds that can nurture a meaningful tomorrow.
Our presentation ‘Positive Lives – Say Yes to Life’ is a milestone in the history of dance for a contemporary concern. While it has tackled the stigma and discrimination caused by HIV/AIDS in a unique artistic collage of mediums and expressions, the ballet has also made waves throughout the world be it India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Italy or in the USA where it has been covered extensively by media. “Rituranga: A Symphony of Seasons” on the other hand is a creative and contemporary interpretation of Tagore songs of the seasons and this ballet has been celebrated right across the country and in Singapore for its colour, energy, innovation and visual appeal. These two presentations are now ready to tour the country as part of 15th Anniversary of Sapphire Creations in major cities in India where they would be presented as a Double Bill or Solo by distinguished artistes / impresarios like Geeta Chandran in Delhi, Suchitra Date in Pune and Mallika Sarabhai in Ahmedabad amongst others or at prestigious venues like Alliance Francaise in Chennai, NCPA in Mumbai and so on. This long tour would ensure that the message of these two productions travels far and wide among, artistes, connoisseurs and art lovers. Sapphire's RITURANGA is a pure dance presentation, a celebration of the seasons. The same seasons, grishma (summer), varsha (monsoon), sharat (post monsoon), hemanta (autumn), sheeta (winter) and vasanta (spring) are explored, but through an idiom which is experimental, and a colourful geometry of designs against space and time. The breath, fragrance and feel of each season connect to the inner soul through visual and body metaphors. Set to Dr. Ghose’s symphonic raptures, in this new language of dance, Tagore is set free in a realm of non-linguistic, cross-cultural movement and expression.
