On the 12th of September, Art Vision presents the 4th dance festival called SANGAM - A CONFLUENCE OF DANCE.

At: Rabhindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar

The first festival was conducted on the 5th of September 2005 and it showcased two styles of dance, Odissi presented by Art Vision, under the direction of Ileana Citaristi and Kathak by Mahagami, Aurangabad, under the direction of Parvati Dutta. The second festival in Sept. 2006 included Odissi by Art Vision and Bharatanatyam by Lasya, Mumbai. The third festival in September 2007 included Odissi by Art Vision and Kuchipudi by Vijayanthi Kashi and troupe.

The festival is conceived as an offering of new and exclusive choreographic compositions in two different dance styles. Every year two styles of dance come together on the same platform to showcase recent and innovative works. While Odissi is a constant factor, the other classical style varies every year. This year besides Odissi presented by Art Vision, the festival showcases Manipuri dance by Anjika troupe, directed by renowned dancer and choreographer Priti Patel.

The program presented this year by Art Vision includes three new compositions: 'Sparsa' - a joyful interplay of movements and rhythm between two dancers; 'Pallavi' -  elaboration of melody, rhythm and choreographic patterns danced by five dancers and 'Mahanadi...and the river flows' - an ode to the great river, cradle of Orissa culture danced by the entire ensemble. The music for the three items is by Laxmikanta Palit and the chorography by Ileana Citaristi.

The production presented by Anjika is 'Malem-Prithvi' - an ode to Mother Earth and its beautiful creation. In this work, Priti Patel uses extensively movements of the martial art of Manipuri, Thang-Ta, along with the classical movements of the Manipuri dance style. The music, partly recorded, partly live, is by Suraj Kumar and Ratan Singh and the choreography of the Thang Ta part is by Imocha Singh.

Art Vision was founded in the year 1996 by Dr. Ileana Citaristi along with a group of artists belonging to different disciplines such as dance, music, painting and literature. During these years, Art Vision has already conducted several events which reflects its  multi-disciplinary nature. Among these are the series of Festivals of Films on Performing and Visual Arts organized yearly from 1996 onwards and the Kalinga Mahotsav, a National Festival of Martial Arts, organised in collaboration with Orissa Tourism at Dheuli Stupa, since 2003. The performing unit of Art Vision has already presented dance   performances in many prestigious festivals and conferences in India and abroad. The repertoire of the troupe consists of original compositions and dance-dramas choreographed by Ileana Citaristi, who is a senior disciple of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. She is recipient of many awards, among which are the National Award for Best Choreography (1996) and the Padma Shree award (2006).

Anjika was founded by Priti Patel in Kolkata not just to impart training and expertise in the Manipuri dance form in the same unique tradition that has been followed  over the ages, but  also for teaching the students the value system that has been passed down the generations. As a school, it has dual curriculum: it is a school for Manipuri dance and is also a school for Movement Therapy for children suffering from cerebral palsy. Priti Patel has undergone formal training from the Lesley College, Boston, in the United States in dance and Movement Therapy and has worked with special children in collaboration with the Indian Institute for Cerebral Palsy.  Anjika has performed in several prestigious dance shows all over the world and has won a number of laurels and accolades for itself. Priti Patel has herself, received innumerable awards in appreciation of her work and excellence in this dance form.
