
Kalasagara UK presents Nivedanam September 7, 2008 London August 31, 2008 NIVEDANAM is a Bharatanatyam performance by Srinidhi Raghavan, Anupama Muthukrishnan, Vinita Venkatesh, Janany Harrichandiran (disciples of Usha Raghavan) The dancers will explore the theme of unconditional devotion to god, through compositions by Indian composers who lived over several centuries. Presented in traditional margam, the pieces within the show extrapolate on various forms of Bhakti, taking the audience through the stories of several nayikas who profess their love and faith in different ways. The dancers
Srinidhi's
accomplishments include, as a student and President of a dance group at
Columbia University, organising and participating in intercollegiate dance
showcase and fundraisers in New York. More recently, Srinidhi and her friend,
Sahasra, produced Her Story, a unique Bharatanatyam presentation that premiered
in Manhattan's prestigious Peter Norton Symphony Space Theater to rave
reviews. Srinidhi is at present a third year analyst at an Investment Bank
in New York.
Anupama
Muthukrishnan has been learning Bharatanatyam for more than 17 years
under the guidance of Jayanthi Subramaniam in India and has continued learning
from Usha Raghavan in London. Since her Arangetram in 1996, she has given
solo performances in various cities of India as well as abroad, including
performances / participation in Bharat Kalachar, Music Academy's Spirit
of Youth Festival, VDS Arts Academy, Indian Fine Arts Festival, Paris Vedanta
Centre, France as well as for a fundraiser in Sri Lanka, among others.
A seasoned dancer, Anupama has also participated in many group performances
including the Spirit of Unity concerts, SIFA program at the Music Academy
and various other festivals.
Janany Harrichandiran has been learning Bharatanatyam for the last nine years under the guidance and training of Usha Raghavan. Janany had her arangetram in 2004 in the presence of Dr. Balamurali Krishna. She has since then danced in leading roles in several productions of Kalasagara UK and received great reviews for her poise and grace on stage. She is currently a second year student at The University of Warwick, studying Chemistry. |
