About Nritya Sangati - Dance Progressions:
What is a progression? Is it a journey, a transformation, the evolution from simple to complex, or simply moving from point A to point B? Or all of the above! Nritya Sangati invokes varied images and inspired us to create the following pieces:

Progressions in Nritya (Expressional dance)
Tales of Immigrant Women: From India to America - Inspired by our own stories and those of our friends and family, we present contemporary narratives describing the journey of two immigrant women from India to America and their personal struggles.
Union with the Divine: Before and After - The journey of the heroine from yearning for her lover to the blissful union with the Lord.
Unlikely Hero: Village Girl to Woman Warrior - Born in a village ruled by the warrior queen of Jhansi, Jhalkari bai's life should have mirrored that of the other demure women. However, she showed tremendous courage at an early age and became a warrior to defend her land.

Progressions in Nritta (Abstract dance)
Adavu Sangati is inspired by the potential within the basic building blocks of Bharatanatyam or adavus.
Swaralaya Sangati is a composition, composed by Madurai Muralidharan, which juxtaposes sung notes (swarams) and spoken rhythmic syllables (jathis).
Gati Sangati is an exposition of the five gatis: tisram (3), chatusram (4), khandam (5), misram (7) , and sankeernam (9).
