December 18, 2009 Brhaddhvani presents UNIVERSE OF SOUND, its first-ever festival featuring lectures and demonstrations by ARUNA SAIRAM, CHITRAVINA RAVIKIRAN and TRICHY SANKARAN along with celebrity talks by RAJEEV MENON, RAMESH VINAYAGAM and others. What is Universe of Sound?
Each day will focus on one of the three basic aspects of music - melody, harmony and rhythm. Each day will bring together an artist of the highest standing in the Indian classical context in conversation with a musician from a western context. It will feature a live performance followed by discussions. All events will be held at the historically renovated and landscaped campus of the MCTM Chidambaram Chettiar International School, #179 Luz Church Road, Chennai Who is performing?
They will be in conversation with eminent musicians from abroad – Frances Shepherd from the United Kingdom, Woody Shaw III from the United States and Eero Hamminemi from Finland. Excitingly, celebrity guests – Rajeev Menon and Ramesh Vinayagam introduce the speakers on the first and second days, bringing the perspective from the bigger world of entertainment as catalysts for the conversations to follow. The world of the visual arts is represented
with an exhibition centered around the theme MADRAS IN DECEMBER in collaboration
with Apparao Galleries.

Brhaddhvani (meaning "Big or Universal Sound") is a non-profit organization based in Chennai, India; a research and training centre for musics of the world, founded in 1989 by Prof. Karaikudi Sambasiva Iyer Subramanian. The institute opens up music to everyone and works towards a holistic music education in a global context, combining art and science, tradition and technology. |
