Guru Bipin Singh, the doyen of Manipuri dance breathed his last on January 9, 2000 in his Kolkata home. Hundreds of his disciples all around the world mourned his death and are working to continue his legacy.  

Dr. Sohini Ray one of his senior disciples, founded Manipuri Dance Visions in Los Angeles in 2005. Apart form the training and production unit, Dr.Ray's institution has a research and documentation unit, an audio-visual archive with several hours of rare footage on ritual functions of Manipur.  The film 'Sounds and lights of devotion' is her debut film showing the transition of Manipuri dance from temple to stage marking the different turning points in its history.  

To honor her Guru's memory, she and her students will present some of the traditional numbers that Guru Bipin Singh’s gharana is known for. These pieces taken directly from the temple Rasleela sequence are seldom performed on stage but form the core repertoire of Manipuri Dance.
