Abhinaya Dance Company of San Jose, the Bay Area's premier South Indian dance company, announced details of their 30th Anniversary celebration. Abhinaya will begin the season with a spring concert and student recital entitled "Dancing Divinities - The eternal dance of the gods." The performances take place on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the CET Sobrato Center in downtown San Jose and will be presented with a live orchestra in front of honored guest Guru Indira Rajan from Chennai, India.  
  
The concert will feature:  
* More than 50 Abhinaya students presenting Dances of Krishna at 3pm  
* Stories of Apsaras in the heavenly court of Indra at 5pm  
* Rasika Kumar, principal dancer, describing Nataraja, the dancer par excellence  
* Mythili Kumar (Artistic Director) presenting the dance of Bhudevi – the earth goddess  
  
The orchestra is comprised of Malavika Kumar - nattuvangam, Asha Ramesh - vocals and Carnatic music composition, N Narayan - mridangam and kanjira, Shanthi Narayan - violin, and Ragavan Manian – flute.  
  
Mythili Kumar founded the Abhinaya Dance Company of San Jose in 1980 to present innovative and professional quality performances of South Indian classical dance. 2010 marks 30 years of performances and instruction in the Bay Area by Mythili Kumar who has nurtured an entire generation of exceptional dancers in Bharatanatyam. During the course of this special year, Abhinaya's performances will showcase the ancient living tradition of classical Bharatanatyam tracing its evolution through Abhinaya's extensive repertoire inspired by India's religious, mythological, and contemporary literature. Abhinaya has won acclaim as a leading multi-cultural organization in the South Bay, known both for its adherence to tradition as well as its innovative multi-cultural collaborations.

Abhinaya Dance Company's 30th anniversary year highlights include:  

June 5/6 - San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco  
Abhinaya Dance Company's Dance on the Earth, choreographed by Rasika Kumar, was selected to perform for this festival through a competitive audition for more than 150 Bay Area dance companies.  
June 27 – Renowned Gurus CV Chandrasekhar and Jaya Chandrasekhar from Chennai, India - Workshop and Performance by principal dancer Rasika Kumar  
August 14/15 – Two day 30th anniversary celebration featuring:  
Collaboration with the famous Japanese drumming group San Jose Taiko  
Performances by artistic director, company and selected alumnae  
Guest composer Guru Muralidharan 
October 24/25 – Collaboration with the renowned Balinese music ensemble Gamelan Sekar Jaya.
