May 19, 2010 On 5th June 6.30pm, Alliance Francaise with BSM, host and present a unique Indian dance event, under the umbrella of East West Encounter 2010. On the occasion, 7 classical male dancers of Karnataka featured in the current issue of attendance, will be presented. Attendance is India's only year-book on dance, in its 12th year now and hailed internationally by UNESCO Dance Council as a model dance journal. The seven male dancers featured in
this issue and to be presented on the day are: Bharatanatyam's best Satyanarayana
Raju, Seshadri Iyengar and singer-nattuvanar Praveen Kumar;
Kathak's bright, upcoming stars BP Sweekruth and Tushar Bhatt
and seasoned artiste, Muralimohan Kalva. Mysore Sridhar Jain
is the seventh dancer.
attendance 2010 issue (www.attendance-india.com) featuring also the pioneering scholar-collector Mohan Khokar, Male Dancers and the Madras Season, will be released on the same day in the distinguished presence of Chiranjeev Singh, President of AF. Renowned Kathak guru and choreographer Dr. Maya Rao will share memories of late Prof Mohan Khokar. A short DVD on The Khokar Collection will be screened. Guru Maya Rao will speak on the subject and doyenne of crafts patronage Dr. Vimala Rangachar will receive the first copy. Many luminaries from the dance, music and literature world are likely to be in attendance! attendance being India's only yearbook on dance, platforms important issues concerning dance art, along with all that has happened in Indian dance, in a given year. In past 12 years/issues, attendance has presented states, styles, stars of the form and each issue is hailed to be a collector's item with lots of archival, historical pictures and snippets. For all issues details, please see www.attendance-india.com ![]() Ashish Mohan Khokar is member of ICCR's Advisory Board; Doordarshan's Dance Advisory Panel and now, Bangalore Music School's Advisory Board. He has authored over 35 books on arts and heritage and is a pioneering arts-administrator having served Delhi State Akademi (1984-85); Festivals of India in France (1986), Sweden (1987), Germany (1988) and China (1989) and INTACH (1989-91) under Rajiv Gandhi's Chairmanship. For 15 years (1990-2005) he was the dance and culture critic for the Times of India, Delhi and had columns in its Bangalore edition. He contributes columns on arts to India Today, narthaki.com and many others, internationally. He is currently Director-Curator of India' first dance museum, coming up in Thiruvananthapuram.
