About Guru Shradha and Niharika Mohanty
Guru Shradha is a non-profit dance company with a mission to preserve and promote Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra’s style of Odissi in North America and abroad. After decades of training under Guruji in Odissi dance, culture and language, Niharika Mohanty, one of the senior-most North American students trained by Guruji, took on the crucial role of continuing Guruji’s work in North America by founding Guru Shradha. Since its inception in 2008, Guru Shradha has developed into a premier Odissi institution, known for its strict adherence to Guruji’s teachings. Guru Shradha’s dancers perform widely throughout the Bay Area and abroad. In addition, Guru Shradha provides workshops and lecture/demonstrations to those fascinated by Odissi dance for its aesthetic quality or its spiritual origins. Guru Shradha also plays a significant role in the international Odissi community, organizing and sponsoring performances and tours for Odissi dancers and musicians from abroad.
