Gandharva Mahavidyalaya celebrates 75 years
Tarpan - An Offering
Kamani Auditorium
March 23 - 30, 2014 New Delhi

March 13, 2014

Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi, celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2014. Pt. Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya founded this institution in Delhi in 1939, taking inspiration from the ideals of the great seer Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. As homage to the pioneering effort of these stalwarts towards the propagation of Sangeet (gayan, vadan, nritya), Gandharva Mahavidyalaya has organized an 8-day festival TARPAN.

Dates: March 23 – 30, 2014
Venue: Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi
Info: (011) – 23233791 / 23238784 / gmvnewdelhi@gmail.com

The festival consists of three segments:

March 23 features the Gandharva Choir, and group choreographies in Odissi presented by the students of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.

March 24 to 26 features some of the best talent amongst the younger dancers today, and attempts to bring to them a mentoring which would normally not be available to them. Each dancer has been paired with a guru who is an established and senior exponent of another style. The hope is that the younger dancers will benefit from the novel association and be exposed to unique inputs that will further their own understanding of the form. This collaboration will reflect in the repertoire being presented, where one or more pieces, learnt from such mentors, will be rendered in each dancer’s own style.

March 27 to 30 features stalwarts of music, many of whom have been closely associated with the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya since early days.
