April 21, 2014

The 5th year of Bangalore's popular Dance DISCouse Series, started and curated by dance historian and promoter Ashish Mohan Khokar, has a special focus every year called the WDD (World Dance Day) where young talents can dance with established names. Outstation talents get to be seen too. Thus the World Dance Day celebrations (always on a Sunday closest to the actual day, ie, 29 April) becomes a full day 10am -10 pm dancethon!

108 dancers get to be seen on stage in group/solos/duets. The outdoor opening ceremony in the cool climes of Bangalore makes dance feel open space and after the hour long opening ceremony, where all major forms that are in vogue and practised, all move in to the charming AF Theatre that sees non-stop dance activity till diner time!

Books, DVDs, posters decorate the foyer. The Alliance Francaise of Bangalore comes alive. Itís a place where one can bond with fellow dancers and enjoy sharing common concerns in greenrooms, on stage and at the national seminar of the Dance History Society. Members of DHS get the yearbook attendance free plus chance to dance in World Dance Day after auditions. The process starts in January of shortlisting, selection, audition. Forms on www.attendance-india.com

All are welcome to join in. Itís a day for, by, of dance and dancers!
