Attendance - The dance Annual of India, covers a year (1st Jan-31st Dec) in perspective, and has been serving the cause of dance, history and heritage, garnering for itself a prominent place on the book shelves of Universities and art Institutions the world over.
Edited, compiled and published by dance historian and writer, Ashish Mohan Khokar, Attendance is a Hard bound edition in colour, art-paper, that brings the many worlds of Indian dance into our lives.
Attendance turns 16 this year.
Dancer, choreographer, scholar and writer, Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant who was invited by attendance to be the Guest Editor for the 16th edition, has chosen to dedicate this annual issue to the composite and combined classical dance traditions of the Telugu people.
The issue titled Telugu Traditions is a comprehensive compilation and curation that spans Telugu dance traditions in its myriad manifestations, through the fading voices of nonagenarian gurus, coursing through the vision of extraordinary performers and teachers, across nearly a century, who have written with their ankle bells, the history of Telugu Yakshagana, Kuchipudi, Andhra Natyam, Vilasini Natyam and Perini, which have their origins in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. A host of articles, interviews, personal memoirs, books, research articles, and write-ups reconstruct the creative journey of the many extraordinary artistes, and encompasses the warp and weft of Telugu classical dance traditions.
