The Photo Exhibition celebrates the career of dancer Geeta Chandran marking four decades since her arangetram in 1974. To mark these 40 glorious years of dancing, Natya Vriksha, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Pyramid Group is presenting this exhibition of iconic photographs by photographer RAKESH SAHAI. For the past five years, Rakesh Sahai has been following the dancer on her creative journey, and from the dialogue between dancer and photographer has emerged this oeuvre of brilliant images.

Geeta Chandran is celebrated not only for her deep and composite understanding of the art of Bharatanatyam, but also for her Carnatic music (she is a trained and accomplished vocalist), her work in television, video and film, theatre, choreography, dance education, dance activism and dance-issue journalism. Founder-President of Natya-Vriksha, Geeta has evolved a holistic style of teaching the classical dance which engages young learners. Several of her students have blossomed as full-fledged performers. At Natya Vriksha, Geeta galvanizes her role in different directions; pure classical work and research, intense preparation of classical soloists, creating group choreographies and also engaging with cross-over work.

Geeta Chandran is also Artistic Director of the Natya Vriksha Dance Company, known for the high aesthetic quality of its group presentations. She has travelled all over the world with her performances and has danced at many prestigious dance festivals in India and abroad. Geeta has collaborated with a wide range of dancers, musicians, crafts-persons, authors, writers, poets, painters, theatre-personalities, academicians, philosophers, linguists and costume and fashion designers. Geeta is associated with several NGOs and charitable organizations raising resources for valuable causes, among them peace, environment and peace. She is well-known for her association with philanthropic causes, and has presented innumerable performances to raise funds for worth social causes.

Geeta has authored a book SO MANY JOURNEYS, an intensely personal collection of her writings narrating her engagement with Bharatanatyam. She writes a dance column in The New Indian Express/Sunday Standard, and regular feature articles in Hindi for the Rajasthan Patrika Group.

Rakesh Sahai has been a professional photographer of acclaim for a quarter of a century. For the past 22 years, he has been associated with Black Star, a New York based photo agency that distributes photographs around the world. Alongside, he has also worked on several freelance assignments in and around India, covering a variety of subjects from news themes to promotional work for corporate houses. While corporate photo-shoots have been a core area of his photography, he has also done assignments for designers, architects and artistes for outdoor themes and studio photography. Another aspect of Sahai's repertoire is the fact that he is an avid wildlife and nature photographer. He has done detailed photo documentary in the Western and Central Himalayan ranges, capturing the landscape, fauna and flora from Kashmir to Uttaranchal.  He is widely traveled and has worked with several Non-Governmental Organizations and educational institutions. He has also done several dance and theatre shoots.

He continues to be associated with Time Inc. servicing their flagship TIME and other publications of the group. He presently also works for The Straits Times of Singapore. His assignments in the Sub-Continent include photo-shoots in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. His news and feature portfolio includes his contributions to several books and cover pictures for international publications like Time and Asiaweek. His impressive corporate portfolio includes calendars, brochures and photo exhibitions.
