Gurus Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran present MAANINI featuring nine brilliant young dancers on November 20, 2015 at 6.30pm at A.D.A. Rangamandira, J.C. Road, Bangalore.
The production MAANINI is an attempt at breaking away from conventional methods of viewing Bharatanatyam. MAANINI is a presentation that looks at Bharatanatyam from a different perspective. Group choreography is effectively used to expressively communicate abstract concepts as also to make the presentation visually delightful. The numbers are all traditional pieces adhering to the techniques and the grammar of Bharatanayam yet they are innovative enough to break free from age old restraints.
The production will feature an initial number that sums up Bharatanatyam in a nutshell explaining all its basic technical qualities like Angika, Vachika, Aaharya and Satvika. The next number explores the concept of Ashta Nayika in her various forms within the format of a traditional Varnam and ends with a piece which highlights the effective use of rhythm and visualization in group choreography.
Conceptualised, choreographed and directed by Guru Kiran Subramanyam, MAANINI is intended as a revival of some of the most significant choreographies of Kiran Subramanyam. The production glorifies the essence of the feminine energy and epitomizes the qualities of beauty, grace and elegance of the feminine form. It brings together some of the best young talents in Bangalore, and they are sure to enthrall the art lovers of Bangalore.
