Max Mueller Bhavan
March 10-12, 2017 Chennai

February 23, 2017

The past five years has seen a tendency for choreographers and performers to shift their work 'out of the box'- either the black one or the proscenium. There is a new sense of intimacy between performer and audience, a moving away from the idea of spectacle, the objectification of body.
A new insistence on the honesty and rawness, the vulnerability and simplicity of sharing the performative space.
How much of this is choice?
How much a result of the still absent support to produce work, an inattention to the needs when practice must be sustained?

The three choreographers, in addition to presenting their work, will also elaborate their strategies of production. A conversation that will hopefully open our eyes to the fact that in contemporary 2017 India, the dance context remains oddly loyal to either the traditional art space or to the contemporary supported imported spectacle.
