In 2009, Sai Venkatesh, Director, Sai Arts International, conceived a Monthly Dance Festival called ‘Sai Nrityotsav’ with a vision to promote talented artistes, promote our performing arts and thereby preserve our centuries old tradition. Our country has a rich pool of artistes and in a field where the supply is much more than the demand; many of them are left with minimum or no opportunities at all to showcase their talents. It is to cater to such dedicated artistes that Sai Nrityotsav was introduced, that guaranteed an ecosystem of genuine talents performing in good platforms.
Sai Nrityotsav, which is being conducted on the 1st of every month, now in its 9th year, is approaching a significant milestone of the 100th month and has featured many notable dancers of national and international fame. All the 8 Indian classical forms have been presented and in various forms including solo, duet, trio and wider group participations.
Every festival has a structured format where there are 5 slots of 30 minutes and the performances are rendered in continuous or spaced intervals. The performers have been provided with all the flexibility where they are allowed to use studio recorded music or live musicians accompanying them. Sai Nrityotsav through its 100-month journey has not been externally sponsored eliminating the need for carrying their names and logos on the banners. To ensure full attention from the audience, there have also been no chief guests, guests of honour etc. that at times tend to take away precious performance time.
The participants are awarded a certificate of participation and duly honoured with a small token of appreciation. Since the event is neither a sponsored event or supported by Grants or external funding there is no remuneration attached with the performances. However, in case of artistes traveling from outside Bangalore, their travel and logistics are usually taken care of by the organizers. Sai Nrityotsav has proved to be a launch pad and a notable performance platform where hundreds of dancers have had their initial stage performance opportunity and have then gone on to achieve significant accomplishments.
The event has been completely managed by an able and high energy packed team of Sai Arts International, all of whom are professional artistes themselves. The media and press have been highly encouraging and their kind support in ensuring adequate publicity every month has ensured great audience.
