Apsaras Arts Dance Company of Singapore presents TANJORE: THE GOLDEN AGES OF BHARATANATYAM. Dance doyen Lakshmi Vishwanathan plays the role of a Sutradhar, as Kamakshi Bai, the last Maratha queen of Tanjore. With Vachika Abhinaya, she takes the audience on a visual journey of poetry, music, dance and history celebrating this ancient kingdom of South India.

This dance theatre production explores the influences of the royal rulers between the 10th and the 16th centuries, tracing the evolution of culture and dance through the ages. Performed by Apsaras Arts company dancers Mohanapriyan Thavarajah, Banupriya Ponnarasu, Sathvika Shankar, Nikita Menon and Varsha Vishwanathan from TFA, Singapore. The show is presented with the original ideation and script by Lakshmi Vishwanathan, and Artistic Direction by Aravinth Kumarasamy.

The Book Launch:
In conjunction with the above performance, Apsaras Arts is pleased to launch the book "Contributions of Thanjavur Maratha Kings" by Prince Pratap Sinh Serfoji from the Thanjavur Maratha Royal Family (Sadar Mahal Palace).

The book details a brief history of the Thanjavur Maratha dynasty, the Cholas, the Nayakas and their contributions to Bharatanatyam. Rare unknown facts and unseen photographs have been included in this book making this a one of a kind publication for the benefit of historians, artistes and connoisseurs of Indian arts.

The book will be launched by the guest of honour Dr. Vyjayantimala Bali. The first copies will be received by Bharatanatyam exponent Lakshmi Vishwanathan and Aravinth Kumarasamy, director, Apsaras Arts Singapore.
