GURU DEBAPRASAD DAS needs no introduction to dance lovers, considering his contribution to the Odissi dance form. In 1954, Guruji's prime disciple Dr. Priyambada Mohanty (Hejmadi), performed solo at a Delhi seminar where critics Charles Fabri and Mohan Khokar first reviewed this form of dance. His disciple Indrani Rahman first brought Odissi to the notice of the audience outside India in 1958. Thus, Guru Debaprasad Das holds a significant position in establishing Odissi as an international dance form. His disciples are legendary Guru Sudhakar Sahu, Guru Durga Charan Ranbir, Datuk Ramli Ibrahim and Guru Gajendra Panda. Guru Gajendra, being the youngest of all, has been organising many festivals, seminars, workshops and Award Festivals as Guru bhakti for decades.
