8th Guru-Shishya Parampara Dance Festival
Triveni Kala Sangam, 6.30pm
Feb 15 - 17, 2019 New Delhi

Through the centuries, Indian art has survived and flourished through the tradition of the Guru -Shishya Parampara- the institution of passing on knowledge from the teacher to the disciple. Through generations of following this practice, a Gharana or paddhati or style is established.
In the Indian art tradition, an artistís first and most important recognition is the school of thought, or the parampara (Gharana) that he or she hails from. Its identification is as important as one's lineage. The artist's search is not for her or his unique self only; instead, it is for submerging himself in a perennial flow.
The Guru or the teacher is very significant, as he passes on to the student fine nuances and the essence of generations of traditions. Apart from the art form, the Guru also imparts SANSKARS or the code of values and conduct. The maturity of an artist is gauged by the extent to which she/he has mastered the intricacies of their Gharana under the guidance of the Guru.
JAYANTIKA-The Mayadhar Raut School of Odissi dance, a premier dance institution in Delhi is one of those rare institutions that follows this practice even today. In its effort to preserve this ancient dance tradition, it organizes the GURU-SHISHYA PARAMPARA FESTIVAL from time to time, featuring artists- both senior and upcoming, who share the belief in the Guru-Shishya Parampara.
This is the 8th edition of Guru Shishya Parampara Dance Festival and it is being from 15th to 17th of February 2019 at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, 6.30pm.
The participating dancers will present their respective Guru's unique style.
The festival will commence with a documentary on Guru Mayadhar Raut showcasing the life and work of this legendary Guru, one of the pillars of Odissi as it exists today.
This year Guru-Shishya Parampara will feature promising dancers like Ankita Nayak, Naimisha Pradhan, Preeti Pratihari, established dancers like Lucky Mohanty, Prativa Panda, Nalini Suhag Das, Swayampragnya Sahoo, and eminent gurus like Guru Rabindra Atibudhi accompanied by his disciple Rachita Atibudhi, and Guru Niranjan Raut accompanied by his senior disciple Mamata Satpathy.
