Ashish Mohan Khokar's attenDance, the ONLY yearbook on Indian dance (www.attendance-india.com), is 20 years old.
attenDance instituted 5 awards 9 years ago, to help dance and dancers, practically. Basic idea of these awards is to make a difference. The awardees are selected by a secret jury after their expert eyes see and view many years of performance.
Editor of attenDance and reputed scholar, critic, historian Ashish Mohan Khokar and Elisabeth Hall Khokar have instituted these awards in the belief it will help mentor young talents and celebrate senior ones.
What the award entails:
1. Young awardees (age 40-50) get 3 shows in India (so their art reaches more) or go abroad on internships (so they enhance their skills).
2. Seniors (65-85 of age) whom the system has passed by...Gurus who didn't get a Padma or SNA award or even a state award are honoured for their service to art field. AttenDance documents them with a monograph, a biography or even a short film.
This year's awardees are:
Dr. Seshadri Iyengar - RAM GOPAL AWARD for BEST MALE SOLOIST
G. Ulaganathan - MOHAN KHOKAR AWARD for BEST ARTS WRITER
Bharat and Sharat Prabhat - UDAY SHANKAR AWARD for CHOREOGRAPHY
TTB-Teatro Tascabile Bergamo, Italy – RUKMINI DEVI AWARD for OVERALL CONTRIBUTION

attenDance awards are hosted in collaboration with NADAM, who each year support selflessly.
On 30th November at ADA Rangamandira, J.C.Road, Bengaluru, 6pm onwards.
Eminent educationist and art patron Dr. Vimala Rangachar will present the awards.
