hi marie and dancer...

marie...i am sorry to hear about your injury. your persistence and hardwork will definitely help you work through it. i also sustained an injury some time ago (from dance). i took a three-week break and got back into dance slowly. now, the injury is 90% healed. adequate rest and gradual transition is the key ! your turnout link is EXCELLENT ! thanks ! i will definitely try to follow it.
i have noticed there is usually some level of knee soreness and stiffness right after a dance session. but it does subside the next day. that is why i like to take a break inbetween dance sessions. also...knee soreness improves as you master the dance piece you are learning, because you learn to expend less energy with stamping your feet. so although some level of knee pain is ineveitable in the ealy stages...it does subside with time, dedication, regular practise and proper technique.
dancer...i have found the sun salutation, trikonasana (triangle) and the standing foward bend yoga poses to be very good warm up for dance session. also...sitting on the floor cross-legged (sukhasana) helps with turnout of hips. it also helps with strengthening the back. finally sitting on vajrasana helps with preventing and curing arthritis of the knees. yogic breathing (pranayama) is EXCELLENT for daily routine....they really help build up your stamina and increase your energy level. Finally regular practise of meditation will improve your concenration and focus, and will help you achieve success in any field....be in dance, sports or any scientific discipline.
