This is a GREAT article, and really highlights several concerns as both a parent of a child training in BN, as well as a former dancer, (ballet/modern, etc.- not classical Indian).

I see not only such diverse inconsistencies within form, but horrifying and inadequate knowledge/credentials of those labeling themselves as teachers.

Obviously, it shows in the individuals work/performances, etc. but hardly anyone (here in the US anyway) blinks an eye or properly critiques sub-par work. There are no set standards or general curriculum that is adherred to by some who open "schools" and call themselves "gurus" and I wonder why nothing is being done about this? Perhaps it is due to the ability of some to make such $$ profit from lack of skill and knowledge so easily here since there aren't the necessary standards and critique from the professional Indian dance community at large and abroad?

If anyone knows the origin of this article it would be appreciated if you could post it's author and source.

Thanks-
