I have always been under the impression that teaching the classical arts in school, will give the children a good exposure, that may otherwise not be facilitated. This may go into the making of good rasikas , (if not performers )themselves. And good rasikas inturn are important for any art to flourish.I have the following questions:-
1.What should the syllabus of Bharathanatyam for elementary schools look like?
2.When implemented in schools, the arts lose the special Guru- Sishya relationship in its Instruction methodology. Apart from this a necessity of the school to always come up with some production on their various school programmes can be frustrating to a traditionalist who may require a year in the least to get the children learn the adavus atleast. So teaching dance in the first place, is it conducive?
I am involved in one such project and would eagerly await for your answers to take further decisions.
