dance competitions & how judges judge

 i think that since even apsaras, urvasi and rambha were "pitted against each other" at the court of indra, it is useful to hold dance contests even for those dancers who are worse than urvasi. :)

the crucial point is the judging. it is a deplorable fact that judges are too often too biassed. i never heard that a prize was awarded to a bharatanatyam dancer according to the spectators' choice or according to the peer judgement (i.e. when the contestants decide themselves who among them is the best)
