Every dancer who pursues her art passionately has had some obstacle to overcome. If this is a path that is meant for your life it is actually quite normal that there will be doubts, resistances from family, societal disapproval etc... Think of Rukmini Devi for one moment... First she marries unconventially, then takes up the study a dying art which no one thought was a worthwhile profession at her time. All this at an age many would laugh at today. Who believed in her vision? She did. If she listened to the doubtful voices around her an entire style of the dance would never have come into being. Because of her passion, her hard work & listening to her heart, we have a formalized style each generation can continue to build on.

External accomplishments for the approval of others amounts to little in the end. The mystery of life is listening to the voice of the heart and having the courage to follow it. As you put one foot in front of the other the path will become clearer and the way to synthesize your formal education with your passion will naturally evolve.

Remember the butterfly will die if it does not beat its wings against the cocoon...and it is the beating which makes the wings strong enough to fly.
