when in doubt just call any padam a subbaramiyer padam. and any thing done in the sitting posture a ksetrayya padam. :) :) that's what a lot of dancers do :)

on a similar note: one time when i was learning sami ninne, i went to see a performance at narada gana sabha. there was a sanchari which said: "as the creeper winds around the tree so do i" etc. - i went home and asked my Guru: "why aren't you teaching me this kai?" and he said: "because it isn't in the varnam".

oops!

she was just making it up and letting everyone think that's how the varnam was.

another time i went to see a performance of <> in todi and there was this beautiful choreography: dark clouds, and a thunderstorm. i dont know this varnam so i just have to take it at face value. it was just beautiful.

i told my friend about it and he said: "oh, i saw her do <> varnam and there were beautiful thunderclouds, a peacock dancing, and a thunderstorm"

after that he would tease me evertime I said I was going to see <> perform: "you'd better take your umbrella, there's going to be a thunderstorm!"

but after saying all that ... i don't care, i'm a fan of this dancer and i'd always go to see her perform, even if she were to set "humpty dumpty had a great fall" to a varnam.
