 Very interesting questions here, mallika
I hope we get some answers?
The link below offers some of Natya shastra chapt. 1 and 2 with a soundfile of reconstructed shrutie music from a new DVD (Dr. Lalmani Misra: Sindura on Vichitra Veena)
since there is no direct link I can give one has to find it on the webpage under the titles:
Shruti Veena: Manifestation of Bharat’s Gram and ChatuhSarana
Bharatiya Sangeet Vadya - Elements of Music – I
Bharatiya Sangeet Vadya - Elements of Music II

It also states Bharata as
"Geetam vadyam tatha nrityam trayam sangeetamuchyate"
Geet (song), Vadya (instrument) and Nritya (dance) - the three arts are collectively known as Sangeet (music).

I do not want to comment on that scholar right now, but still I am fascinated by the assumption of that trinity of arts, but the scholar leaves out the discussion on dance. Hopefully someone here knows if
and where the shastra did explain this corelation?
