Yes, all the other people at that event in the Irumbai temple had a perverted vision (or were simply blind), this is why they were not able to see the Lord Shiva in Valli.

2. "Beauty" in India is considered divine, while most of the church-going atheist Americans understand "beauty" as merely "prettiness".

To perceive real beauty means to develop a very refined sense of discerment between the ugly and the beautiful.
