I think the other post says it all. This is a forum about art and not India vs. USA. Both countries have good and bad in their cultures. Both countries are complex and sophisticated. It is unfortunate that someone like Sheela who has never experienced both cultures (I am assuming she has never set foot in the US from her post. I may be wrong) calls one culture "ugly" without experiencing that culture at all. Beauty can be both secular and divine. It depends on the person experiencing the art. A person can watch Bharatanatyam as a beautiful art form and another person can see Lord Shiva dancing through the Bharatanatyam dancer. One experience is not lower than the other. As long as both the secular and divine experiences gives due respect to the art form, I think no harm is done. Only a very ignorant and narrow-minded person would call another culture "ugly" after watching a couple of TV shows. In all probability the Divine is a lot more tolerant than our Sheela here.
