Karamveer Puruskaars: Artists4Change

At an awards ceremony organized at Rajghat in New Delhi on Wednesday 26 November, iCONGO, a conglomerate of over 2000 affiliated NGOS in India, honoured change makers in several fields.  Among the Karamveer Awards for Artists4Change were film actress Kaajol and classical dancer Geeta Chandran.

Kaajol, Indian representative of the UK-based Loomba Trust, uses her position as an actress to raise funds for educating poor children and financing welfare schemes for poor widows. 

Bharatanatyam dancer Geeta Chandran is celebrated for several creative and social initiatives which parallel her work in pristine classical dance 
Geeta’s wide societal engagements include artistic performances in the fields of gender issues (equality, feticide, marriage), peace (women and war, building societal bridges), fighting communalism, highlighting issues of drugs and human trafficking, raising environment awareness and using dance as a tool to understand managing change!
