AMGR 2009: 25th year annual celebration in UK

 May 7, 2009

The Andhra Medical Graduates' Reunion annual functions are held in the UK to facilitate social and cultural interaction and consolidate friendship amongst doctors living in Britain and hailing from all Medical Colleges in Andhra.

To mark the 25th year of this Reunion, a function was conducted at Hilton Hotel at Coventry on 2nd-3rd May this year. Eminent personalities from India including Acharya Dr. Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, Mandali Buddha Prasad - Minister for Fisheries and Dairy Development, and Dr.M.Gopala Krishna, professor of surgery attended as special guests. The venue was packed with alumni interactions, medical meetings and cultural activities with songs, dances and playlets by local doctors and families. Songs by Dr Apparao and the playlet 'Nyaya Nirnayam' presented by Dr. Vivekanandamurty Kadiyala and other doctors, were the highlights. And the wonderful dance performance by Ragasudha Vinjamuri was appreciated by one and all.

Ragasudha's performance on 3rd May opened with Beejakshara Stotra during which Aksharas 'Aum Hreem Kleem Kreem' reverberated in the whole auditorium. Her postures with Bhakthi mudra were impressive and her dance on unique rhythmic mrudanga onomatopoeic syllable beats was a treat to watch.

Then came Adi Shankaracharya's Achyutashtakam - a composition encompassing praise primarily to aspects of Lord Rama and how evil characters like Pootana, Dhenuka, Kesi, Kamsa and Kamsa in different incarnations were slain. Sudha displayed her movements, bhangimas and expressions with great ease.

Yemani Pogadudume, a beautiful sringara (romantic) composition of Annamacharya describing the beauty of Goddess Alamelumanga was scintillating. The movements were delicate, the music was excellent and her wide eyes vividly expressive. The refreshing presentation ended with an ode to the motherland, "Andhra maata neeku vandanamamma." Later, she was felicitated by Dr. Bapuji Rao and convener Dr.Chadalavada Subba Rao.
