APPAN (Asia - Pacific Performing Arts Network) was launched in January 2000 in South Korea with Sun Ock Lee, internationally known Korean dancer as Secretary General and International Coordinator. The organization is to help the collective cultural voice of Asia to be heard on the subject. With Shanta Serbjeet Singh as chairperson, a 3-day conference called Journey to the East took place in New Delhi from 28th to 30th November 2000.
MAHAGAMI - Mahatma Gandhi Mission Sangeet Academy, Aurangabad is a gurukul dedicated to the training, dissemination and promotion of the performing arts. The academy has recently devised an art appreciation series named ANUBHUTI meaning 'an experience'. This appreciation session is arranged free of cost for various organizations, educational or social institutes and any group of art aspirants. The session seeks to initiate the onlooker towards the various aspects of the performing arts. The two-hour presentation comprises of a lecture, demonstration, CD-ROM display, slide show, audio-visual presentation, discussion, etc. Since, MAHAGAMI imparts training in Odissi & Kathak (Indian classical dances), Dhrupad (Indian classical vocal form) and Pakhawaj (Indian classical percussion instrument), the appreciation sessions are focused on any one of the above disciplines.
