The Ananda Shankar Foundation was launched on the 60th birthday of the latechoreographer / musician on December 11, 2002 in Calcutta, with a scholarship from Airtel. Tanushree Shankar is the chairperson of the foundation. Initially, the scholarship will benefit modern dance students of the Ananda Shankar Performing Centre, to be extended later on to other students of the modern dance syllabi. The Ananda Shankar Scholarship promises an outstanding performer, all monetary support towards creating something individually, with a chance to go abroad and study at a renowned dance school.

Shaswati Sen, senior most disciple of Pt. Birju Maharaj is writing a biography on her famous guru. It is titled Master Through My Eyes.

Thirty Bega tribe girls receiving training in Kathak under the guidance of Chetana Jyotishi in Bhopal, gave a performance on January 3, 2003. The Madhya Pradesh Ustad Allaudin Khan Sangeet Academy continues to make efforts to promote classical music and dance by extending training to make these Bega tribe girls culturally sound by imparting good training in dance, music and vocal.
